Buccleuch Property Challenge

Nov 12, 2015

After a very promising debut at the 2014 Buccleuch Property Challenge, Gladman Developments returned in 2015, however this time fielding three teams for the event.  The challenge consists of about 6 hours of adventure racing, not only to test fitness level, but the mind as well. Drumlanrig Castle on the Queensberry Estate provided the background for the corporate charity event, with Tearfund the nominated Charity for 2015.

The challenge is for teams of three (either mixed or single sexed) to develop their own tactics to get to the points as indicated on a map, and navigate their way around the estate. Mountain bikes are the main mode of transport to the various orienteering style checkpoints or secret acticity bases. Over the course of the day,  the teams cover approximately 40km on bike, and approximately 5km hill running.  Other special activities included Highland Games with wayward thrown cabers and weights, a body boarding descent of a stream and team pulling of a landrover.

The Gladman, Gladwoman and Wii Not Fit teams approached the challenge with different strategies, ranging from a focussed fitness challenge, to  picnic connoisseurs pairing  stopping points to suitable nibbles / energy foods. Only one of the teams made it to the podium though, well done to the Gladwoman team and their new spoons.
