2016 Ryden Quiz

Nov 15, 2016

Following on from the strong performance in the Buccleuch Property Challenge, it was now time for Gladman Scotland to show their general knowledge skills in the 2016 Ryden Pub Quiz. This was the 4th year the pub quiz had taken place, and not only did it allow the opportunity for various companies to fight it out in a battle of knowledge, but the main focus was for the evening was to fundraise for Ryden’s partner charity SANE. Over the 4 years Ryden’s Pub Quiz has managed to raise £41,000 for SANE with c. £7,000 coming from the night.

Gladman Scotland, competing under the team name Gladman Express, was made up of 4 of the brightest employees within the Scotland office. The Gladman team had a mixture of youth and experience finished off with a healthy dose of competitiveness, ensuring Gladman Scotland were able to cover a wide range of topics and steam train to a respected finishing position.

Gladman had a secret quiz whiz in Kenny McBrearty, the 1989 class quiz champion. With this in mind, Gladman Express took the approach of ‘form is temporary, class is permanent’. The champion did not fall at the final hurdle, answering a range of questions to ensure the Gladman Express score was ticking over.

In order to maintain focus and concentration, Michael Fletcher ensured the team were well hydrated. The utility player not only chipped in with a variety of answers, he also volunteered to be the designated scribe. Michael was a valuable team member on the night.

The two young guns of the Gladman team were Luke Garrett and Matthew Rose. With a vast knowledge over a range of subject areas, the two graduate planners were able to contribute significantly to the overall score.

The night concluded with a raffle and charity auction and certain members of the Gladman Express were keen to get into a bidding war. The good hydration levels meant that Gladman Express were able to get two prizes over the line.

Out of 38 teams, Gladman Express finished in a well-deserved 5th place and on this showing, they will be knocking on the door of the podium positions in the future.

The night was thoroughly enjoyable and made even better by the huge amount raised for SANE.

Thank you to Ryden for organising a brilliant evening.
